It’s almost summer! And despite the lack of rain in this part of the world where I live, I had been searching for a good waterproof undereye concealer for my upcoming Tofino trip. The last thing I want is to look like a panda in the rainforests! Before I had my daughter, I never bothered with concealer. But now, it’s a necessity I cannot live without, a step I will not save even if I’m pressed for time!
While I was trying to look for a good waterproof concealer, I came across this:
The internet people can be cruel, no? This poor girl. I remember when I was in my teens, my face was littered with pimples, so I feel her pain. But now, I need a concealer for my dark circles. Here are the ones that I have found:
Cheapest: Maybelline Cover Stick Waterproof Concealer
I had reviewed this (and had since discarded it, not much used) before back in November 2011. It’s the cheapest waterproof concealer available here, under US$10, and comes in three shades. This is horribly drying so if you use this for undereyes and have wrinkles and lines, this will settle in. I know everybody tells you to moisturize your eyes properly before putting on concealer to avoid concealer caking, but unless your eye cream isn’t oily or flaky, it can compromise the waterproofing. Anyway, this isn’t my cup of tea, but if you cover blemishes with this I think it might work fine.
Cezanne is a Japanese brand, an affordable drug-store level brand. Cezanne cosmetics typically cost no more than US$15 per item.
Stretch formula: Moves flexibly with the skin, staying closely attached to it.
Waterproof: The long-lasting formula gives hours of coverage for problem areas.
Anti-sunburn: SPF20-PA++. Prevents blotches and freckles caused by sun exposure.
Coverage effect / Fragrance-free / Non-mineral oil / Non-ethanol
Available in 2 shades (Light Beige and Natural Beige) – I bought Natural Beige to avoid the reverse raccoon eye effect. I bought it from alphabeautyuk, my favourite ebay seller, so I will do a review once I receive it.
This is so similar to the Cezanne one, even the price (Canmake is also a drugstore level brand in Japan). Here are the specs:

I had to do a double take to make sure I had the right picture for this, because it looks exactly like the Make Up For Ever one, except at exactly half the price. I don’t usually use Sephora brand products so I can’t tell you how this works though.
This highly pigmented concealer is ideal for hiding dark circles or any other skin imperfections. With a shade for every skin tone, its waterproof, oil-free formulation goes on weightlessly and smoothly, creating flawless, non-cakey coverage that lasts all day long. Non-comedogenic, synthetic fragrance and paraben free.
A lightweight, creamy, discreetly opaque concealer. Provides a smooth, long-wearing invisible coverage for all skin blemishes. Water-resistant, fragrance-free and non-acnegenic. This emollient-based, lightweight concealer is so concentrated that a tiny amount can provide opaque coverage of the skin’s imperfections and discolourations. It effectively covers dark circles, blemishes, moles, tattoos and birthmarks. Enriched with antioxidants (derivatives of Vitamin A and Vitamin E), it also contains Silica to help adsorb the skin’s oils. Concealer has an SPF of 35 and is available in a wide range of colours. It can be applied with a medium to firm fiber brush (try the 242 Brush), a latex sponge, or the fingertips.
Comes in 13 shades.
A creamy concealer that provides full coverage with a natural matte finish. Brushes on with enough blend time to conceal any size of blemish. Rich formulation allows you to use a micro-amount of product to even out skin. Water-resistant and long-wearing.
I have already reviewed this one almost 2 years ago (click here for my review) – back then, I didn’t have dark circles and used only to cover redness on my face from allergies. This one isn’t like the SPF35 version – that one is more emollient and is meant for dark circles whereas Studio Sculpt Concealer is more suitable for spot cover and blemishes. Studio Sculpt Concealer only comes in 4 shades.
Tarte is cruelty free and this concealer comes in 5 shades.
This waterproof full-coverage concealer combines the calming properties of vitamins A & E, and the soothing quality of Amazonian clay to nourish while completely masking discolorations and imperfections for better looking skin. Amazonian clay acts as a total skin balancer by reducing dryness and flakiness while improving the appearance and texture of skin for longer, waterproof wear! The buildable full-coverage formula is rich in pigments for truer color without a heavy or tacky texture, making it ideal for hiding any and all imperfections from dark circles to blemishes to redness. Designed for brush free application, blending this creamy concealer with your finger allows the formula to melt into the skin for an easy application and opaque airbrushed effect.

This is brand new, and sounds very promising.

If my Cezanne concealer doesn’t pan out, this one is definitely on my list to try!

Cargo is a Canadian brand and I quite like some of their products.
Created for high-definition filming to provide flawless coverage, this concealer also fights wrinkles and brightens the under-eye area. The formula contains Visilox, a state-of-the-art cosmetic alternative to Botox to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Weather-proof and water-resistant, blu_ray™ concealer lasts all day. The formula is buildable, blendable, and long-wearing, making it a favorite among makeup artists filming in high-def.
This one has excellent reviews, but the only drawback is that it only comes in 2 shades: light-medium, medium-dark. Cargo is no longer available on Sephora.com but it sells out of its own online store now. Sign up and you get 20% your first purchase!

This is well reviewed and comes in 10 shades, from pink, yellow to neutral tones. But it is also the most expensive (full size)!
This highly pigmented, super-emollient, waterproof formula blends seamlessly into the skin, creating a flawless complexion that looks and feels natural. The AmazingConcealer is formulated to erase all skin imperfections: dark circles, broken capillaries, sun damage, blemishes, redness and more. There’s nothing on the market today that can compare to the AmazingConcealer and its ability to erase all skin imperfections.
Comes in 7 shades, a well reviewed product. Lancome tests on animals which is the reason why I didn’t buy this one.
This long-wearing concealer provides complete, natural-looking coverage by evening skintone, covering dark circles, and minimizing fine lines around the eyes. The result is a soft, matte finish.
This comes in 12 shades.
An ultra long-lasting, matte finish, oil-free, waterproof, full coverage concealer. Designed to cover major imperfections like scars, hyperpigmentation, major discoloration, burns, and tattoos. This light and creamy concealer contains a high concentration of pigments that stay put, making it perfect for use on the face, as well as the body.
I had tried this at Sephora as this was my first pick for waterproof concealer, since Aqua Eyes works so well for me; but this dries to a matte finish, so I fear it will cake under my eyes. Like I said, you can always use an eye cream under it, but if it’s oily it can compromise the waterproofing properties. If you aren’t going to be in water, I would definitely recommend using a hydrating eye cream under this but I personally don’t think this is meant for dark circles since even the product description does not mention it.
I am quite surprised that there aren’t more waterproof concealers! Anyway, if you are looking for more waterproof makeup (besides mascara, which isn’t hard to find), try Make Up For Ever. I am going to get the Aqua Cream in #8 Red for the trip and will post a review later.
