Product Review: Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara

I received BADgal Lash Mascara as part of my birthday gift from Sephora, which includes Watt’s Up, a stick luminizer. BADgal Lash Mascara’s mini version retails at US$10, while the full size version retails at US$19.

Watt’s Up is a non greasy stick luminizer you can use on the bridge of your nose or anywhere that you want to catch light; it doesn’t finish matte but it will not leave your skin sticky. I will do a review separately for Watt’s Up since it’s a pretty neat product.

Just like CoverGirl’s Lashblast, BADgal is a rubber brush mascara so it’s less forgiving if you accidentally poke your eye(s) with this, though a regular fibre brush mascara will do you in just as bad. The bristles are hard, and the brush is rather big, which doesn’t always work for me. As we get older, volume isn’t always better – our eyelashes tend to get more fragile and don’t quite support the extra volume these big wand mascaras provide. I find this to be particularly true now that I am well into my thirties.

While BADgal volumizes the lashes, it doesn’t quite keep the curls up. It weighs my lashes down very quickly. The Rich Black shade does wonders for volume but I wish the curling power was as good as Lancome’s mascaras which I find to be the best at holding the curls.

Although this isn’t a waterproof mascara, it has incredible staying power. It does not smudge, smear, flake or run, even through tears and rain. The down side is that it is a bit harder to remove. You will need an oil-based or bi-phase makeup remover to take this off and even the best one needed a bit of rubbing to get this off completely.

And due to the size of the wand, I find this very hard to use on my lower lashes. It’s a minor gripe, but overall, it’s a good mascara, though lacking in curling power.
