Though most concealers are by nature water resistant (even if they don’t specify it), I wanted one that was waterproof for the summer, since waterparks are very much on my agenda most weekends. I bought Tarte Smooth Operator™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer in Light and tested it extensively at Great Wolf Lodge at the end of June, and on days that I required a waterproof undereye concealer.

This was supposed to be a full-coverage concealer, by the way, and though I didn’t have the darkest circles, it did not completely cover mine. The Light shade was slightly pink to counteract the dark circles, but I find that the concealer wasn’t pigmented enough. It was no more full-coveraged than the $11 Fasio concealer I already have (which is quite water resistant too). As with some of the waterproof concealers, what you put underneath could compromise the waterproofing effects. If you use a rather emollient eye cream under, for example, expect this to smear. Although I had concerns about caking, this actually wasn’t drying at all (it was quite creamy), and did not cake. I don’t have crow’s feet or wrinkles or lines around my eyes, so I can’t say this won’t settle into lines; but it definitely withstood the humidity in the waterpark and underwater, provided that I did not use an eye cream underneath.

The texture of this concealer is smooth and creamy, and blends very easily and does not dry up on your skin. I had used Maybelline’s cheap version of it and it was very drying and cakey, and this is not like that at all. It provides a natural finish (neither matte nor dewy) and can be set with a translucent powder. For the waterpark, I did not set it with powder at all, and it stayed put (I did not use an eye cream underneath either) all day.

All in all, it’s a decent waterproof concealer, but if you are in it for the waterproof properties, Bobbi Brown’s concealers and correctors, though not specified on their packaging, are actually water resistant and they are much more pigmented and cover dark circles better.

Here is a picture of me using this concealer under normal, natural lighting without flash:

My dark circles are still visible. I personally did not think it did much to cover them. BUT this is still a good concealer if you use it on blemishes and it will stay put unless you use an oily moisturizer underneath.
