This is my very first Sofina Aube Couture product. I need something to conceal my dark circles; and can you believe that after spending literally more than $100 I still can’t find my HG concealer? Well, I gave up on concealing. I moved onto highlighting, but Touche Eclat didn’t pan out…so I am trying this product specifically meant for the undereye area. This isn’t cheap, by the way. I have been using Shiseido Integrate Design Veil in White (3.5g, US$18) under my eyes, and it was a bit too stark that it gives me a reverse raccoon eye effect; I was hoping that Sofina Aube Couture Designing Highlight would be more subtle, since there is a bit of pink in it and less shimmer.

This product is 1g more than the Shiseido Integrate Design Veil but more than double the price, so I did have high hopes for it. The compact is neat and pretty: you have to squeeze both sides to pop it open, and there are enough instructions in the form of diagrams to guide you through. It’s not rocket science, really, and even if you can’t read Japanese I doubt you would have trouble learning how to use the product.

There is a gradation towards the bottom of the Aofina Aube Couture Designing Highlight. It is a little bit pink and it has shimmer in it. I am usually wary of shimmer when it comes to highlighting the undereye area because it draws too much attention to the very problem you are trying to hide (ie dark circles).

But the shimmer is very subtle. It is barely noticeable; as is the pink.

The product also comes with a special brush. It is folded for storage, and you can use it as is; or you can unfold it and it opens up to be twice its size for a good sweep.

Now, I don’t normally use the little applicators the makeup usually comes with. This is not a bad idea though. The bristles are very very soft, just like the one that comes with the Shiseido Integrate Design Veil. I believe it’s made out of pony hair (let’s hope the animal didn’t have to die for this) but I am not 100% sure.

The brush opens up to a wider version of itself.

The pink case is pretty, as with all the Aube Couture items.

BUT. Ha, you know the big BUT is coming! This does go on white, just like the Shiseido Integrate Design Veil in white. The above picture is taken in bright natural lighting during day time, which is ok because the whiteness doesn’t show as much;

But (second but now) it still doesn’t completely hide the dark circles. I have two layers of TheBalm’s TimeBalm on (in Light) under a sweep of Aube Couture Designing Highlight, and you can still see the dark circles, especially in normal room lighting.

The worst thing is, under flash photography, it is stark white and very noticeable. It gave me the much dreaded reverse raccoon eye effect.

Yep, it definitely shows up under flash photography. I’d say if your skin is very pale you may get away with this product; I am a BO10/BE03 and this definitely registers as a white layer under my eyes. As the day progresses the white layer stays on (at least it has staying power), but it looks all the more obvious, it creases a bit too. It is exactly like Shiseido Integrate Design Veil in every way except this is twice as expensive. SkinFood’s Salmon Dark Circle Powder with a light yellow tint actually worked much better than this product – but sadly, it’s been discontinued. It was only 1/3 of the price of this and it really concealed my dark circles better.

I bought this from ichibankao.com by the way.

I am very disappointed in this. Had this been US$18 instead of US$38 I wouldn’t complain as much; but now, I am stuck with yet another undereye product that does nothing but highlight my dark circles. Ugh.

I will probably use this as an overall highlighter, but my search for my HG concealer/highlighter for dark circles is still on.
