smashbox photofinishlight 256x300 Product Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light To Go, 15ml, US$17/CAD$24

I got a sample of this in my last order from Sephora.com, and loved it so much that I went and bought the to-go size. While I loved Laura Mercier’s primer, I found that this one from Smashbox really does provide a perfectly smooth canvas for makeup application, without feeling too slicky, silicone-y (think DHC’s Velvet Skin Coat) or flake off. It is also absolutely colorless and contains peptides.

I had used the regular version before, but somehow I prefer this one, since this one is oil, paraben and fragrance free, which did not irritate my sensitive skin. It also holds my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer even better and longer than the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer. It makes my skin look so polished without that awful drying effect of some of those mattifying primers (i.e. my Boots one). It did not overly mattify, but whatever rich moisturizer I use underneath will not look greasy after I put this on top. I can even skip loose powder with this as my final step!

The only reason why I bought just a small size is because I had bought Fusion Beauty’s Anti Wrinkle Primer, regularly CAD$44, for CAD$11 from Sephora’s clearance sale. I figured with that full size bottle, I only need a little bit of Smashbox for now. But I will definitely repurchase this as it is by far the best skin smoothing primer I have used.

(Full size version of this primer, at 1 oz, is US$36/CAD$44)
