Product Review: SkinFood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF20 PA+ Shade 2

SkinFood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF20 PA+ Shade 2
SkinFood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF20 PA+ Shade 2, 50g

This is a triple functioning BB cream from one of my favourite Korean brands, SkinFood, that provides sunblock, whitening and anti-aging. It comes in a tube as most BB creams do, and like most SkinFood packaging, this is neat and cute, what you would expect from the brand. It contains skin friendly aloe and mushroom extract, adenosine and arbutin that helps to improve the appearance of fine lines and promotes a brighter, more radiant complexion with UV protection properties.

This comes in 2 shades: 1 & 2, and I am reviewing shade 2, the darker shade. The texture of this is the way I prefer from a BB cream – it is not thick, but not runny like some of the Japanese BB creams I have tried, and dries to a somewhat matte finish on my dehydrated combination skin. It doesn’t dry quickly though, unless your skin is so dry that it absorbs it right away. I have tried it on completely bare skin vs. over a moisturizer and primer and on my bare skin it tends to dry very quickly and leaves a very matte finish.

There is a slight scent to this BB cream as with many SkinFood and Korean products, but it’s very light, and doesn’t bother me at all. I had experiences with Korean BB creams in the past with them looking ashy and too pink on me, and while this one does look fairly pink (I have yellow undertones) at least it doesn’t make me look gray/ashy. Though SPF20 PA+ isn’t enough sunscreen for summer time, I would say that for the winter in Canada this will suffice, especially if you were to fast-track your morning routine to get out the door in half an hour or so.

As for the wear, I have tried this with and without a primer. Without a primer, this tends to smear despite setting with a loose powder and requires touch up; with a primer this lasts longer but still has a tendency to smear, though to a lesser degree. If you have oilier skin you will need not only a blotting paper but also powder to retouch every now and then.

As for coverage, I would say this is medium coverage but buildable if you require more. It doesn’t ball up or flake off which is always a good thing.

Though this doesn’t work for me as far as the shade goes, it will work for those with normal skin types and pink undertones. It is a decent BB cream that doesn’t look ashy and will complement skin with natural pink undertones. You can purchase this item here.
