Product Review: Shiseido The Makeup Smoothing Veil

Shiseido The Makeup Smoothing Veil, CAD$43.00
Shiseido The Makeup Smoothing Veil 30ml CAD$43.00

I honestly don’t know what I would do without Shiseido!!! I just need something that evens out my skin tone without any coverage or color, and this is exactly what I need, and more. At first I thought this was a makeup base, but it turns out to be even better – it is a colorless finish foundation that smooths out lines and evens out skin tone, and packed with Thiotaurine (antioxidant) and Multi-Nutrient Factor for good-for-your-skin properties.

The texture of Smoothing Veil is like a nice face cream; it is very creamy but not in the least bit greasy, although it feels hydrating. It is the ideal texture and feel for my dry and dehydrated skin. It goes on with a slight white tint but it blends in evenly, leaving no white cast or film. My skin instantly looks radiant, dewy (but not shiny) and supple, just like I came out of a nice moisturizing facial. You don’t need much either, just a little smaller than a quarter size and it’s more than enough for the whole face.

By the way, I use this alone, over sunscreen. I dust powder blush on my cheeks and the blush stays on all day. Since this is colorless, it does not sink into your lines or anything. Because it hydrates so well, my skin stays exactly the same as I first apply this all the way till bedtime. I don’t even need any powder to set this at all!

Another holy grail product from Shiseido I cannot live without!

Hi lestari! Thanks for coming again. Great to hear from you!

Facial oil is normal with dehydrated skin, because it lacks moisture but can still produce sebum which is normal (as long as it’s not a lot of oil). This makeup veil actually feels like a cream/moisturizer but I would not replace my regular moisturizer with this though. Also, you only need to use a tiny bit (a dime size is more than enough for the whole face), otherwise it can leave a white finish.

I still love this product more than anything else I have tried – it doesn’t accentuate my dehydration lines and doesn’t leave color behind, so it’s really natural and not dry! 🙂

So this is a colourless foundation?? Do you not use any colour foundations afterwards? What foundations would you recommend using (I noticed you prefer the Japanese Brands, if I’m only 22 and would like a natural-make up look?) Thank you!

Oh how interesting! So just to clarify, this is just a MOISTURIZER & not a FOUNDATION. Does it even out your skintone or does it just moisturize? I definitely want to get my hands on this. Do you know of any online websites that sell this? Thanks!

    Dear Elly and Winspark,

This is a colorless foundation – it does not have any coverage but will even out your skin tone if you don’t have any major spots or blemishes. You can use this as a makeup base or alone.

I use this alone and find this to be a great product.

Winspark – this is not a moisturizer. You can visit shiseido.com for the complete description – and if you live in the US you can buy this on sephora.com. Shiseido usually does not allow online sales of their products with the exception of Sephora. There are other sites that sell but not authorized so I would recommend Sephora because it is an authorized dealer.
