I have always wondered why Shiseido The Makeup (international line) has such limited color choices compared to other major brands. As much as I am a big fan of their lipsticks, the shade selection is lacking to a point that I cannot find a shade I like enough to buy one.

The Perfect Rouge I have is RD514 – Dragon, in a 2g size (which is half the size of the regular tube) which came with a generous gift with purchase at Christmas. I LOVE the texture – it’s creamy yet light, highly moisturizing and just the right amount of shine (subtle shine, not glossy), but the color, which looked like a true neutral red, goes on my lips way too light. The result? The medium blue-red shade appears like a bright red on my lips. Not a look I was looking for, and definitely not an everyday color.

Taking a look at the rest of the shade selection (20 shades in total, most of which are really light pinks), I cannot find anything close to a neutral everyday color. At US$25.00 (CAD$30.00 plus taxes), I am not going to buy a lipstick and settle for a color I cannot wear.

I really wish there are more wearable shades in the Shiseido The Makeup color spectrum! In contrast, Shiseido’s hit brand in Asia, Maquillage, has great color selections for their eyeshadows and lipsticks.
