Product Review: Shiseido The Makeup Natural Eyebrow Pencil

Shiseido The Makeup Natural Eyebrow Pencil, 1.1g, US$20.00

I bought this long before I found out about Shiseido’s animal testing. The one thing I loved Shiseido is their brow pencil colors; oftentimes, the dark brown is too red, but this one (BR602 – Deep Brown) is completely neutral and complements my hair color.

I didn’t even realize that this pencil was made in China until I already took it home. At US$20.00, and being a Japanese brand, I didn’t expect this. I had used Shiseido’s $1 eyebrow pencils which are made in Japan, so I wasn’t happy about this.

The brow pencil does stay on all day and the shade is highly natural. It glides on easily and creates very natural looking brows. Even for beginners, this is pretty fool proof and forgiving. After about 3 months, I had used approximately one-fifth of the length of this, so the rest of the pencil should last me another nine months.

Although the shade is a perfect match, I couldn’t quite get over that this is made in China. I don’t mind the brushes and accessories made there, but when it comes to cosmetics and skincare, especially when you are paying mid to high range prices, I cannot get past it.

Also, because of Shiseido’s long standing history of animal testing, I hadn’t been enthusiastic using this either. I definitely will not repurchase.

    Hi Joseibi,

I just wanted to introduce an animal-cruelty free Asian brand that is really fabulous. Not only it is animal-testing free, it is paraben free, artificial colouring free, artificial preservatives free, synthetic perfume free. It is a brand called Naruko, by the famous beauty guru, Niu’Er

I knew about Naruko and have read the Taiwanese magazines featuring Niuer for a few years now.
