Product Review: Sana Covercom Face Powder (02 Natural Beige) SPF50+ PA+++

Sana Covercom Face Powder in Natural Beige (02), 10g, 1,300Yen

I got this from Adambeauty.com a few months ago. This isn’t a new product, by the way; it’s probably been around for a few years. Sana is part of the Noevir Group, which doesn’t test on animals (or so it claims). I just want something that provides sun protection and minimize the number of products I have to use in the morning when time is of the essence.

This is a pressed setting powder with SPF50+ PA+++, claims to provide full coverage, blur the appearance of pores, with strong adhesion to the skin and is sweat and waterproof. It also contains hyaluronic acid to look in moisture.

First of all, the shade is a little pink, not yellow. It’s more of a neutral shade like the OC shades. This comes in 3 shades, 01, 02 and 03 (dark), and I took 02 (natural beige) instead of the 01 light beige. The powder in the compact looks darker than on the skin.

The coverage – I would say this has medium coverage, buildable, but I wouldn’t recommend more than one layer or it may look a little cakey. This can hide minor imperfections such as light to medium freckles. It hides all my freckles pretty well with just one application (no layering).

I have tried using the puff it came with, but the best way to apply this is with a large powder brush. The puff application will provide more coverage but this will be cakey; I find that when I used the puff to apply, after I smile a few times the powder settles into my laugh lines, which I really hate. With the powder brush, I can make this look fairly natural, though the pink undertones in this powder will still give me a ‘mask’ look.

The lasting power is pretty good – I tried this on a bright, sunny day, 30 degrees Celsius plus humidity (about 35 degrees), and this lasted ALL DAY without a touchup. The only thing is that it settles into my laugh lines so that was the only minor problem. Nothing a touchup won’t fix. I was out playing with my daughter so I didn’t get a chance to look at my makeup, but when I did at the end of the day, I was surprised that despite the heat, humidity and occasional water (splash pad play), this powder stayed on without smearing.

Considering the low price of this (1,300 Yen, about US$16 for 10g), it’s not a bad deal. If you have dry skin this isn’t for you (it will look and feel dry), but if you have oily skin and need a makeup that stays put through heat, sweat and humidity, this is pretty good for what it is.

My rating: 3.5  out of 5.0.
