By now, I lost count of how many jars of loose setting powders I have ever purchased in my lifetime! I usually opt for ‘translucent’, but I am sure a lot of you have used enough powders to know that a lot of them aren’t really translucent. I am especially wary of the white powders that claim to be translucent – they usually show up, especially under flash photography, as a stark white layer on your skin. I have done my homework by reading a ton of user reviews and bought Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, in one shade (translucent), in the US since it’s almost $10 cheaper than buying it in Canada.

This is not a white powder, so that’s good. At the most, or the worst, it might show up a little beigey or pink; but to my surprise, this really is close to translucent as it can get. I don’t use a puff but a powder brush to apply, and this really just blends right into my skin without a trace, and sets my makeup perfectly. It is oil free, and doesn’t oxidize or cake. You will need a touch up in a few hours (I have dehydrated combination skin) but nothing major. Staying power is good without making your skin feel or look dry.

Also, most brands typically give you 11g of loose powder. This one has 1 oz (29g)! Definitely a good value for this kind of quality too.

I think I will end my search for loose powder here. It’s been one of my long standing quests, but I am happy with this product and will definitely repurchase!
