I don’t have the most serious dark circles, but I was surprised that to date, I haven’t been able to find a concealer that conceals them well enough. Not even YSL’s Touch Eclat (CAD$50)! So what did I do? I went way down on the price scale and snatched myself a drug store level product, Kose Fasio Zero Expert UV Concealer, 4.5g, 1450 Yen, at ichibankao.com.

First off, on ichibankao’s website it said this was waterproof; but Fasio’s official website did not claim this product to be waterproof or water resistant. It does have SPF30 PA+++ which is a great bonus. Most of the western brand concealers don’t provide more than SPF15 (if any SPF at all).

This concealer offers 2 shades: 01 (Light Beige) and 02 (Natural Beige). For your reference I usually wear OC10 or BO10 in Japanese foundations, and 01 is a perfect match for me. It isn’t pink or peach based, by the way; this shade is fairly neutral without being yellow. It is almost equivalent to Shiseido’s OC00/10 (somewhere in between) foundation shade.

The texture of this concealer is, surprisingly, very creamy. I had bad experience with cheap stuff like Maybelline’s waterproof concealer stick (which is almost the same price as this one), which was very drying and caked up badly; but not the case here with Fasio Zero Expert UV Concealer. It is very easy to blend and does not cake ALL DAY.

However, I don’t find this to be enough to cover my dark circles. I’d say this has light to medium coverage (more on the light side). I do not have serious dark circles but mine show right through 2+ layers of this concealer. The coverage isn’t too buildable. It doesn’t cake or smear when you set it with a powder, but unfortunately it is no messiah for my dark circles. On light blemishes such as freckles this does a half decent job, but not complete coverage, which is a shame.

As you can see on the second picture, my dark circles are visible under natural lighting. By the way, though this product doesn’t claim to be waterproof, it is actually quite water resistant.

Bottom line:
The pros: great SPF, creamy texture, blendable, affordable price, long wearing, doesn’t cake, water resistant
The cons: not enough coverage for dark circles and freckles
