I have dry eyes, exacerbated by the indoor heat at this time of the year. Lately, even eyeshadows that didn’t crease on my lid before started to crease, from sheer dryness. After a relatively long period of time not using an eyeshadow base/primer, I finally had to be on the lookout for one!

Enter Kanebo Kate Eyeshadow Base in BE-1. It’s cheap – just US$10, though the product looks absolutely tiny, don’t be fooled by its 5g small size. You need to literally take a little swipe with your fingertip and it’s enough to do the whole lid. At this rate, a little tin can will last you months.

There are two shades available: beige and gold. I took the beige shade. It gives just enough pigment to actually neutralize and conceal any discoloration on your eyelids without changing the colour of any eye makeup you apply over. Currently I have a slightly red eyelid on my left eye from allergies/dryness, and one little swipe of this actually completely – yes, completely! – covered it without creasing or accentuating the dryness! Colour me impressed. For US$10, I didn’t have much hope for this product to do much. But it actually performs amazingly well for all its claims!

As for extending the wear of your eyeshadows, eyeliners, this really really does what it claims. My eyeshadows and eyeliner (pencil and also cream eyeliners) stayed put without creasing, smudging, fading or flaking until I remove them at night with a makeup remover!

Yes, it’s small…but it will last you a while.

The texture of this eyeshadow base is very soft, light and easily blended, by the way. No tugging whatsoever. You don’t need more than just a light swipe of your fingertip. It lightly hydrates the eyelids without feeling oily. It doesn’t dry matte either – just a natural sort of feel. As with any eye makeup, I believe less is more – the more you layer on, the more likely it will crease. For me, I use one layer and it does not crease on me, and conceals the redness perfectly well.

I know I already said it, but despite its small size, this will last a long time because you use so little of it at a time. Definitely will repurchase!

    Hi Joseibi!

I also started using this product about 4 months ago…and I absolutely believe in everything you commented on this product. I never used eye shadow base before, but now I am a believer!

Hi Sakura, yes, quite a little bargain for this product. It helps my shadows stay longer (colors don’t fade) and even some of the shadows that tend to crease don’t crease when I use this under. So cheap too!!
