When I read lots of reviews claiming that this was a dupe for Cle de Peau’s concealer (US$70), I took notice. I was never ever going to spend that much on a concealer, no matter how desperate I am with my dark circles. But at more than half the price, I didn’t hesitate to test this out. Plus, Sephora has a great return policy. There’s no harm in trying!

The closest I had to Cle de Peau’s famous concealer was testing it on the back of my hand at a store. I never forgot how creamy it felt; the pigment was dense and it didn’t crease. But I also could not forget the price tag. So years later, I am still without a concealer that I love. After trying out a myriad of concealers – from drugstore to department store brands – I realized that, darn, I might as well have splurged on the Cle de Peau’s version! And of course, just when I realized that, I noticed the buzz about Hourglass’s Hidden Corrective Concealer. It’s still the most expensive concealer I have ever owned, but now, I am ready. It’s not Cle de Peau expensive, but it still made a dent in my wallet. It’d better work or it will just get returned!

Well, I am happy to report that at least this particular story has a happy ending! Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer is pretty much the SAME as Cle de Peau’s concealer! It is ultra creamy, highly pigmented (no need to layer too thick), and it doesn’t crease. It blends like a dream and hides my dark circles. Not 100% (nothing is) but I’d say my eyes look a lot more well rested, which none of the other concealers I used had managed to do. I do like using a highlighting concealer like Maybelline’s Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer on top to make my eyes look even more refreshed, and this, as a base, did not crease at all.

I am happy that I have finally found my HG concealer! The shades are a bit tricky though. Sure, the usual advice is to select a shade lighter than your foundation shade for concealers, but that would have made me a Fair or Pearl, both of which were way too light for my BO-10 skin tone. I am using Natural, which is a light to medium shade with neutral undertones and it is a perfect match on my skin (it literally disappears on my skin but covers freckles and dark circles). I highly recommend testing this in person and step outside under natural light to see if it matches your skin. Otherwise, too light and you will have a reverse raccoon eye effect.

As for durability – the wear is long (doesn’t fade over time) and because you need so little, this little stick will last months.
