Product Review: Fancl Aging Care Emulsion II

Fancl Aging Care Emulsion 30ml, about US$24.00
Fancl Aging Care Emulsion II, 30ml, about US$24.00

There was a time when I liked Fancl products – their formulations are additive, fragrance free and I liked the general concept of the brand. There was a renewal pack that I used and loved, which was costly for the little amount you get, but as long as it worked, I was happy to splurge. But I am on a budget these days, and that means every drop counts.

I was looking for a moisturizer with anti-aging properties to use twice a day, under sunscreen and night cream respectively, to help with the dehydration fine lines on my forehead. I don’t have any other signs of aging otherwise (yet), so I need a product to hydrate and plump my skin. I don’t know why but I suddenly wanted something from Fancl, after nearly 7 years of not using anything from the brand other than blotting paper. So I went to Ichibankao.com and bought myself Fancl Aging Care Emulsion II, which cost me about US$24, but in the US if you shop from Fancl’s official website, it is $30.

The good: manufacture date is clearly printed on the box.

First off, the name isn’t going to win Fancl new fans. I am in my 30s, but this made me feel old. And no, I don’t think anyone wants to use a product to feel old! I set my feelings towards the product name aside, and focus on what it supposedly does:

Introducing “FANCL AGING CARE LINE” improved version of FANCL SKINCARE DX series. Improves dull skin due to aging to more supple youthful skin.

leaves skin luxurious and emollient to the touch

High-absorbing emulsion locks moisture all day and delivers collagen deep into the skin for softer supple skin.

The bottle itself is plastic and is sealed, like all Fancl products, to preserve the purity since Fancl products contain no preservatives whatsoever. Once it’s opened, I was somewhat surprised that the texture of this emulsion is so fluid, more fluid than some of the toners I have used; it’s just a tiny bit richer than water. It isn’t as high absorbing as it sounds either – it needs to be massaged a bit for it to sink in, after which it leaves a slightly moisturized feel on the skin, even though this is the version (II) for normal to dry skin. I don’t think the version for oily skin provides much moisture.

It comes with a leaflet and a label (left) for you to write down the date you opened the product, and once opened, it has to be used within 60 days.

After using this for a month, my impression of this product has not changed since the first time I used it: it is completely useless. It doesn’t moisturize very well, and does absolutely nothing. It’s just slightly better than putting water on your face.

Bottom line: Skip, unless you like the sensation of wasting money.

Joseibi, I watched a Korean television series, “Vitamin”, in which they invited doctors on-stage to discuss various healthcare issues. On one episode in which they discussed skin health, the doctors–dermatologists–all warned that collagen products give a temporary illusion of moistness on the skin’s surface, but because the molecules of collagen, whatever form it might be, are too big for absorption, collagen products are not helpful for the skin. On the other hand, co-enzyme Q10 is actually good for the skin.

Thank you, Kevin! 🙂 I was very disappointed with this product…especially when I am on a limited budget. 🙁

Thanks for being so frank. I am always tempted to try new products but in reality – half doesn’t work or deliver what it promises. There really are only a handful of really good products. Yet I continue to search. Haha. Consumerism!

Thank you!!! LOL I know. I hate spending money and the product just felt like water on your face. I feel so ripped off that way! 😛
