I haven’t used a toner in awhile. I didn’t really notice much of a difference with or without it, but lately, I needed a little extra help with exfoliation so I wanted a toner with a bit of AHA in it. I came across this brand called DeVita – it is not just cruelty free, it’s vegan! The ingredients are all natural and sound great. Essentialdayspa.com sells this at parity with the US pricing, and I bought the Moroccan Rose Facial Toner.

There is another toner with cucumber, but it was out of stock so I opted for the Moroccan Rose version. I love rose so I waited with baited breath for it to arrive. When it arrived though, I could smell the rose through the parcel, which isn’t a good sign. I opened it, and confirmed my suspicion that it had leaked. About one fifth of it, down to where it says Toner.

Now, essentialdayspa.com is one of my favorite places to shop from and I had been buying from them for years. It would not be a problem if I simply let them know what happened. But I realized that it really isn’t their fault, because the product design is bad. The bottle itself is super heavy glass. It reminds me of those Charmzone and Laneige toners back in my day running Joseibi.com as an online store. These bottles ate up whatever profit margins I had because they are heavy to ship, and when there was report of damage, it was a complete loss. Anyway, the culprit is the cap and nozzle (it’s a spray bottle) which are made of thin plastic. So when the product shifted inside the box the weight of the bottle crushed the cap, and hence the leak.

I did report to essentialdayspa.com and while they were gracious and offered to send a replacement, I declined it because I really do feel bad. It’s not their fault and I am sure if they sent it again this might happen due to the faulty product design. The product itself wasn’t expensive but the shipping cost half of that, and as a former ecommerce owner I would hate to have that happen to me.

The product itself is actually really lovely though. The scent of rose is all natural from rose oil, and it has lactic acid which keeps my skin very clear and glowing without the tingle. I have been using it for a week and I can see a difference in my skin’s texture already. That and the Microdelivery Mini Peel Pads from Philosophy really transformed my skin.

That said, unless I buy this in person and am careful to keep it upright on the way home, I doubt I will buy it again. I hope they will change their product design because it’s a great product, but with the great potential for leakage I can’t be bothered to buy it again.
