There are a few items I like in the Benefit lineup, and this was in a value set as a mini to-go (1.8g) version. Advertised as a ‘foundation faker’, and has generally good reviews, I was optimistic when I tried it. I had this for quite some time now, by the way, and always forgot to review it so I want to get this done before I forget again!

In the beginning, there was only one shade available and Benefit claims it’s a one-shade-fits-most kind of product. Evidently it wasn’t true, because of complaints of it being too dark for a lot of people, eventually 2 more shades (total of 3 available) were added. Mine is the original version without specifying which shade, and I actually took this to Sephora to compare against all 3 shades and found this to be a medium.

The texture:

Even though this is oil-free, I was surprised at the slight greasiness. It was easy to blend, but it has to be blended well. Though it claims to be a miracle last-step product, if you don’t set it with powder, you are looking at major smearing. I have dry skin, and even under one layer of loose powder, I could still see a little smearing after a couple of hours. I cannot imagine oilier skin having this on.

The shade:

It’s definitely not one shade fits most. I am not porcelain fair (I am OC20 in Shiseido foundations, NC20 in M.A.C.) but this goes on already one or two shades too dark and orange on me. It also oxidizes quickly – by midday (I put it on around 7am) it was already too dark, and a good 3+ shades darker than my neck. That’s with powder. I tried it without powder one day and it turned into an orange tan color by noon.

Given that it’s not as pigmented as a real foundation (or even as a sheer foundation), I am surprised how much this oxidizes!

The only thing I am thankful for is that I did not buy the full size version! Because it is too dark and oxidizes so much, I cannot even use it as a concealer. At least it doesn’t take up too much room in the garbage can! 😛

(Mental Note: Stick to Japanese or Korean brands, Joseibi!)

That’s a great tip, Madiha, for things that are slightly too dark! 🙂
