I reviewed the Jelly Aquarysta Rejuvenating Concentrate separately; so now, onto the rest of this discovery collection!

Astalift Discovery Collection
Astalift Discovery Collection

I bought this at feelunique.com, a UK based online store and the value for this collection is £94.95. It contains:

  1. Astalift Complete Make-up Remover Oil 30ml
  2. Astalift Replenishing Day Cream 15g
  3. Astalift Regenerating Night Cream 15g
  4. Astalift Jelly Aquarysta Rejuvenating Concentrate 15g (reviewed here)
  5. Astalift Nurturing Eye Cream 7g

Astalift Complete Make-up Remover Oil:

This is a very thin oil, not thick like the one from DHC. It’s orange-colored like the rest of the Astalift products and carries the same fragrance which isn’t unpleasant but it is not as subtle as many Japanese products I have used before. The 30ml bottle will last awhile because you don’t need a lot to completely remove makeup; it does a very good job of it without overdrying the skin. I liked it, and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin despite the fragrance. It is also mineral oil free.

Ingredients:
ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGYCERIDE, POLYGLYCERYL-10 TRILAURATE, DIISOSTEARYL MALATE, HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE, TOCOPHEROL, PHENOXYETHANOL, PARFUM (FRAGANCE), HAEMATOCOCCUS PLUVIALIS OIL, ACETYL HYDROXYPROLINE

Astalift Replenishing Day Cream

Astalift Replenishing Day Cream
Astalift Replenishing Day Cream

This cream claims to help prevent the visible signs of aging by fighting skin oxidation. The texture of this cream is thick, greasy and not easy to spread; and for a day cream, if you don’t have dry skin, I would advise not using much of it at all. Only use sparingly, and use a primer because makeup will definitely slide off on top of this cream over time. It has the same fragrance as the rest of the Astalift products, and orange-tinted color. Because it is so greasy and thick, I ended up using it at night instead of day. The 15g jar lasted me about  a month (applying once a day on face and neck) and it’s good that I got this in this starter kit; I did not see any difference in my forehead fine lines. It moisturized the skin and made it supple, but that’s about it. It felt very thick on the skin – as if it couldn’t breathe – and I didn’t enjoy that feeling too much.

Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER), GLYCERIN, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, SQUALANE, ISOPROPYL PALMITATE, OCTYLDODECYL MYRISTATE, POLYGLYCERYL-3 METHYLGLUCOSE DISTEARATE, BEHENYL ALCOHOL, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS SEED OIL, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, PRUNUS ARMENIACA (APRICOT) KERNEL OIL, BATYL ALCOHOL, DIMETHICONE, TOCOPHEROL, PHENOXYETHANOL, METHYLPARABEN,HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, XANTHAN GUM, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), GLUCOSYLRUTIN, LACTIC ACID, HAEMATOCOCCUS PLUVIALIS OIL, ROYAL JELLY EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, ACETYL HYDROXYPROLINE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, POLYGLYCERYL-10 OLEATE, SUCROSE STEARATE, SOLUBLE COLLAGEN, LECITHIN, ETHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, BUTYLPARABEN, ISOBUTYLPARABEN

Astalift Regenerating Night Cream

Astalift Regenerating Night Cream
Astalift Regenerating Night Cream

This night cream claims to encourage cell repair, maximize moisture levels and provide an anti-aging effect. This is very much like the day cream with the same texture, fragrance though the tint is slightly darker. It’s a good night cream if your skin is dry (lacks oil) rather than dehydrated. None of the Astalift products, mind you, gave me pimples, despite my concern about the two creams being very thick and greasy; but still, I felt like my skin couldn’t breathe with the day and night creams. After a month, neither creams did anything for my fine lines on my forehead. They moisturized well, which was all they did for me. The night cream contains petrolatum, which in my opinion is a cheap ingredient for an expensive cream (£48.00 for 30g)

Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER), GLYCERIN, HYDROGENATED POLYDECENE, PETROLATUM, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAETHYLHEXANOATE, BEHENYL ALCOHOL, PEG-60 GLYCERYL ISOSTEARATE, MALTITOL, LIMNANTHES ALBA (MEADOWFOAM) SEED OIL, DIMETHICONE, STEARYL ALCOHOL, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PEG-6, PEG-32, MICROCRISTALLINA CERA, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, SODIUM CITRATE, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, TOCOPHEROL, PHENOXYETHANOL, METHYLPARABEN, XANTHAN GUM, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, STEARYL GLYCYRRHETINATE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), ACETYL HYDROXYPROLINE, TREHALOSE, HAEMATOCOCCUS PLUVIALIS OIL, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, LAURETH-3, SOLUBLE COLLAGEN, ANTHEMIS NOBILIS FLOWER OIL, HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, SUCROSE STEARATE, ACETYL DIPEPTIDE-1 CETYL ESTER, POLYGLYCERYL-10 OLEATE, ARTEMIA EXTRACT, LECITHIN

Astalift Nurturing Eye Cream

I primarily got this kit for the Aquarysta and this eye cream. This eye cream contains dill and cress extracts and claims to reduce the appearance of under-eye puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.

The texture of this eye cream is thick, like the day cream and night cream, and has the same color too. It also smells the same as the other Astalift products in this kit. 7g was enough to last a whole month, though I only used it nightly since it was too thick and greasy to use under makeup. I don’t know what it was that irritated my eyes from this eye cream but it made my eyes watery and puffy the first time I used it. I could not put it on my eyelids. I tried again, after the reaction subsided, and only used on my dark circles. As long as the cream isn’t near my eyeballs, the reaction was minimal. After a month, there is no visible difference in my dark circles.

I am not impressed with this eye cream because it is too heavily fragranced and it caused a reaction for my sensitive eyes; and apart from it being very emollient, it did nothing it claimed to do. Full size (15g) retails at £39.00.

Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER), SQUALANE, HYDROGENATED?POLYISOBUTENE, PHYTOSTERYL/ISOSTEARYL/CETYL/STEARYL/BEHENYL DIMER DILINOLEATE, POLYSORBATE 60, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, GLYCERIN, GLYCERYL STEARATE, CERA ALBA, STEARIC ACID, BEHENYL ALCOHOL, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, SUCROSE STEARATE, DIMETHICONE, SORBITAN STEARATE, TOCOPHEROL, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS SEED OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, AMINOMETHYL PROPANOL, CARBOMER, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), PEUCEDANUM GRAVEOLENS EXTRACT, HAEMATOCOCCUS PLUVIALIS OIL, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, XANTHAN GUM, NASTURTIUM OFFICINALE EXTRACT, SOLUBLE COLLAGEN, ACETYL HYDROXYPROLINE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, POLYGLYCERYL-10 OLEATE, LECITHIN

Bottom line: if you must get one item from Astalift, it would be Jelly Aquarysta. Personally, I find even that is better on evening skin tone and moisturizing than visibly improving fine lines (I don’t have wrinkles yet). This is an expensive kit to try, but the value of the products is worthwhile if you have very dry skin; if you have oilier skin types, I don’t recommend the creams and the eye cream. Sensitive skin may be bothered by the fragrance in the products as well.

I always found that Japanese cosmetics seem to have a lot of advertising, sometimes more so than Korean cosmetics, but the question of their active ingredients and also pricing for such ingredients often turn me away from buying or trying out any, because they are too highly priced for stuff which claims to contain active ingredients such as ginseng extract, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E….South Korean cosmetics actually are better priced and half the price range even with regards to department store brands.

I do remember having seen this range in drugstores in Japan(it’s not sold in department stores, but in drugstores here), and they do not seem to be that cheap either. Nature Republic actually has a product of the same concept (even one whole line with toner, emulsion, cream and the jelly crystals) of astaxanthin, and its price is cheaper than the products from Astalift. Again, Japan carries this line from NR as one of the FEW Korean imports in its drugstores, but their prices are so ridiculously marked up as well compared to Korean prices!
