When I was researching on user-feedbacks on mascara primers, several ones stand out as being the most popular – Lancome Cils Booster XL, Shiseido The Makeup Mascara Base and Anna Sui Mascara Primer. My lashes were not taking in my Diorshow waterproof mascar too well so far – and even though I had discovered a trick to stop the smudging (by only applying one coat and let dry completely if I were to apply a second coat), I find its brush overwhelming since I don’t have thick and long lashes (which is why I wanted Diorshow in the first place – how ironic!). I finally went with Lancome’s since it has the best reviews and there was a GWP going on at Sears.

Sometimes there are thousands of good reviews on a product but it doesn’t mean it will work for you – but this one actually does what it claims, and so much more! In the official product description it doesn’t claim to volumize, but it actually does! And lengthens too. It does a lot more than just conditioning your lashes or make the mascara adhere better. It also serves as a definer/volumizer/lengthener under your mascara!

Here are the before and after pictures:

I find that this Cils Booster XL mascara base actually does a pretty good job of holding my freshly curled lashes. It separates my lashes and gives them great defnition. It has a good lengthening effect (which wasn’t claimed in its product description) although not too long.

As the Cils Booster XL dries fairly quickly (unlike Diorshow), I was able to apply Diorshow almost right after. I only applied one coat of Diorshow on top because Diorshow will go tarantula on me.

Although the pictures didn’t show a dramatic difference (enlarge to see better), when I use one coat of carefully applied (I have to stress this because it tends to look clumpy on my lashes) Diorshow, my lashes are much thinner and honestly don’t look that much different from me wearing a drugstore brand mascara. But with Lancome Cils Booster XL, my lashes are thicker and are more noticeable even when not close-up. The Cils Booster XL also lifts and holds the curls better.

At the end of the day, I still prefer using Cils Booster XL, since there is virtually no smudging with it under Diorshow. I don’t have long and thick lashes – my lashes are medium length and somewhat straight (not completely) so I felt that using a mascara base does help.
