What better way to celebrate 30 years of business than to create yet another sure-hit product? SKII’s brand new whitening essence (its whitening essences have gone through so many upgrades and new names I have lost count!), called Cellumination Essence, promises to light up your skin from within in as little as 7 days (that’s how they advertised it in Asia).

The new ingredient is De-Melano P3C™, and combined with Centella Asiatica extract, Niacinamide, Pitera, and a cocktail blend of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and organic acids that work together to infuse the skin’s surface with essential moisture, while providing radiance. Cellumination Essence (Hydrating Serum) hydrates and refines the surface to boost skin’s natural, healthy-looking glow and to help diminish the appearance of discoloration for a more even tone.

Why the name: Cellumination

Personally, it’s pretty clever. The essence conditions and refines skin surface with more even texture and transparency that boosts light transmission within the surface. More light transmission creates a healthy looking natural glow and makes the look of discolorations such as age spots have a less obvious contrast to natural skin colour. Because the aim is to achieve skin that looks like it is lit from within, the name is quite ingenious.

This new Cellumination series has two products: the Hydrating Essence (above) and a gel cream, Cellumination Cream. The 30ml version of the essence retails at US$150.00, 50ml for US$220.00 and the cream costs US$150.00 for 50ml. The good news is that Cellumnation is earning rave reviews literally across the globe; the bad news is that you will be at least a couple hundred dollars poorer for the month!

SKII Cellumination is already available in Asia, and in the US, you can purchase at Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue and the official SKII US website, http://www.sk-ii.com.

I always read your reviews because you always test out many asian brands, which is better for my skin, but the products are always pricey so it’s nice to have someone give the pros and cons before purchasing. Thanks again. I am happy that I happened upon this site.

I was wondering because I got something which is based on the similar idea of illumination when in Korea. The product is The Saem’s Diamond V O2 Bubble Mask, which purportedly contains diamond dust as a brightening agent in the bubble mask. I wonder if anyone has any research or knowledge forehand on the use of diamond dust or anything akin to that in skincare. It’s a smart idea needless to say since diamonds do reflect light and has some illuminating properties probably when in dust form in makeup, but how far the claims go is another thing.

The ad is here by the way. Interesting concept. @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9cpc9IfBb0&feature=related
