Gift With Purchase – Does It Influence Your Shopping Habits?

I have to admit: I am a real sucker for these things. Everytime I see a gift with purchase, even if it’s a brand I don’t normally use, I will impulse-buy something I don’t need just to get the generous 6 or 7 piece bonus that comes with the purchase.

It’s smart marketing, really. In this economy especially, if I don’t see any bonus that comes with my purchase, I may as well switch to another brand that offers a bonus, to make my buck go a little further! For the company, they are giving away generous trial size products (usually new products or best seller favorites) in hopes that you like them so much you would be a return customer, buy the full size products, and be hooked on them. For the customers, it just feels good that for the same amount of money they were going to spend, they are getting a whole lot more. It’s a feel good factor for both sides.

But most of all, these companies are hoping to get you to spend at least that amount to qualify for the bonus. Not too many products are right at that price level to get the freebie, so you always end up overspending. That doesn’t matter in the end though – both the customer and the company come out happy!

Haha that’s sooo me. I always stop by macys or the like and see and the little gift bags Free with purchase! and i get all excited that i want to buy thier stuff just to get the free bag, even though department store makeup is usually garbage. Fortunately, my husband always comes shopping with me and convinces me says “you wouldnt want that crap if you had to pay for it, so what makes you think it would be any better if it was free?”
    My solution:
I go to rite aid or wallgreens whenver they have buy one get one free sales, and then ill get a free makeup that i actually want!

Me too. I have few small bags free gifts when I buy make up or skin care. I just keep it and did not use it. Last 2 weeks I spent almost RM1000 buying products from Dermalogica which are giving me the body care product as a gift and also a travelling skin care. Hahaha Hope it is useful although the Super Rich Moisturiser are making my skin imples

Good to know I am not the only one! 🙂
I don’t think it even has to do with the value of the bonus. Everybody loves freebies!
