We had all gawked at the $500 creams. Now the question is, are the $60 creams from cheap brands worth the money?

The name AmorePacific is not new to many Asians – under the famous AmorePacific roaster, there are a number of highly popular brands such as Laneige, IOPE, Sulwhasoo, Mamonde (available in Korea only) and Etude House. But the AmorePacific brand itself – only launched in the US and Japan in recent years – has yet to garner the same recognition and reputation as, say, Laneige or Sulwhasoo. Available in the US only at high end department stores Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, AmorePacific is slowly getting the attention that it deserves, after being recommended by leading beauty magazines such as Elle (US), Bazaar, Allure and Vanity Fair.

L’Occitane is one of my favorite brands. I like the fact that they keep the use of parabens and chemical preservatives to a minimum in all their products, and that they use mostly A.O.C. ingredients and help sustain communities where these ingredients are harvested from. Most of all, I love their Provencal packaging and scents: from olive oil, lavender to honey and lemon, L’Occitane captures the essence and richness of Southern France – Provence – and has a legion of fans worldwide.
What I enjoy most at this time of the year is the Christmas gift sets from major cosmetics and skin care brands. Here is where L’Occitane shines – its unique, colorful and Provencal packaging truly stands out and makes the gift boxes a nice keepsake even long after you use up the products inside:
